Rain postponements on Friday in Montreal inevitably compressed the schedule of the Canadian ATP tournament, so much so that for Jannik Sinner and Matteo Arnaldi, executioners of Alejandro Tabilo and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, respectively (the latter retired while trailing in the third set), the match schedule offered quarterfinal matches against Andrey Rublev and Kei Nishikori only a few hours later.

On the tour de force imposed by the tournament's organization, Jannik Sinner did not mince words just after the match he won against Tabilo: "There's not much time to relax nor to celebrate,” he said, “the only thing to do is to try to play your best and at the same time conserve energy, hoping to close in two sets as è happened to me. Also becauseé if you don’t win the first game, you don’t play the second".

"I’m glad, however, to have the chanceà to play again within a few hours such an interesting match" added Sinner, who against the Chilean won his second consecutive match since returning to the singles tournaments after a month of post-Wimbledon stop.

Jannik Sinner is enjoying a 2024 of the highest level: this season he got off to a great start by winning the Australian Open (the first slam ever won by an Italian on cement at the men's level), subsequently also winning tournaments in Rotterdam, Miami and Halle, the latter just days after becoming the first Italian ever to lead the world tennis rankings.
