Alexander Zverev wins without trembling: Paris-Bercy is his
The last Masters 1000 of the year has its winner.
Alexander Zverev won the Paris-Bercy final, clinching the last Masters 1000 of the season that will be closed by the ATP Finals in Turin. The German, who already before the final act of the tournament had the certainty of becoming the second tennis player in the world behind Jannik Sinner, ruled Ugo Humbert in just over an hour and a quarter of play: 6-2, 6-2 the final result.
Few problems for Zverev, who conceded the opening game of the first set to Humbert and then hit two breaks that earned him a 2-1 lead first and a 4-1 lead later (despite needing as many as three break points in the latter). At that point he è simply controlled operations to bring home the set.
Even more one-sided was the start of the second set, in which Zverev even managed to take an early 4-0 lead by, moreover, coming back from 0-40 in the third game. At that point there were no more jolts, with Humbert unable to get back into the match and surrendering the final to the new number 2 on the ATP circuit.
"Tennis never stops, and to keep up you have to constantly find ways to improve. Also, because right now Sinner and Alcaraz show such speed and aggressiveness that you are the one who has to constantly make progress. Right now the best are Jannik and Carlos, that's clear, and it is confirmed by the Slams they have managed to win this year. But I am always trying to grow", Zverev had declared even before the Paris-Bercy semifinal.
