F1, Red Bull: Sergio Perez getting closer to making the cut
Checo’s future will beà decided in Abu Dhabi
With two GPs left in the season, Red Bull è out of the race for the World Constructors’ title. McLaren and Ferrari are playing for it. A snub for the Milton Keynes-based stable, which, having celebrated Verstappen as the new World Champion, was hoping to also take home the trophy as best team.
It è did not happen because of Perez. The Mexican, to date, has won "only" 152 points, compared to his teammate’s 403. Marko has stressed, several times, the fact that Red Bull needs drivers who can bring a lot of points during the season, highlighting the Mexican’s limitations.
Perez has a contract with Red Bull for next season as well and, more importantly, è supported by several sponsors who would like to continue to see him in F1. Will it be enough è? The feeling è that Red Bull will change. We will have to wait until Abu Dhabi, site of the last GP, to know more.
Many are certain that Colapinto will take Perez’s place. Lawson would also have possibilities. A complicated choice for Red Bull, which, next year, will have to give Verstappen a quality single-seater to try to win the fifth World Championship in a row and, at the same time, be competitive with both drivers, to try to return to dominate the constructors’ standings.
