New twist in Mick Schumacher’s career
Mick Schumacher announces farewell to Mercedes
After two seasons as a Mercedes reserve driver, Mick Schumacher has decided to take another turn in his career, leaving the Anglo-German stable and exploring new possibilities, if not to rejoin the grid for the 2025 F1 season, at least to compete full-time in another series. The announcement was confirmed by the person directly involved and Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff.
"I am grateful to Toto and the entire Mercedes team for the experience I have had over the past two years,” said the German driver, son of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher. “It has certainly enriched me and allowed me to delve into the engineering side of this environment. Watching forò racing cars without being able to sit in the cockpit è difficult".
"I want to get back to focusing 100 percent on racing,” added Schumi Jr, who was recently accosted by Sauber, which will officially become Audi from 2026. “I want to commit myself full time to the sporting side again. In the end, every driver wants to do nothing but race, it’s the races that give you excitement and that feeling of doing something you love".
"Mick’s hard work, focus and determination have been instrumental in the progress of our team over the past two years,” commented Toto Wolff. “He has worked with the simulator, tested different cars, been part of the team on the trackside. We couldn't ask more of him. He's a top driver who deserves important opportunities: I wish him the best for the future".
