Giro d’Italia Women: Marlen Reusser sets the record straight right away

The big stars of the Giro d’Italia Women were not long in coming. The inaugural 14.2-kilometer time trial in Bergamo kicked off the second edition of the RCS Sport-branded women’s Corsa Rosa with a direct confrontation among the big names in the general classification.
The winner was Marlen Reusser, Swiss national time trial champion, who took her ninth victory of the season by flying an average of 49.059 km/h. Reusser inflicted 12″ on world champion Lotte Kopecky, 16″ on Elisa Longo Borghini, and 20″ on Anna Van der Breggen.
More distant were the other favorites: the Maglia Bianca Antonia Niedermaier finished at 48″, Juliette Labous at 51″, while Marianne Vos was 58″.
Monday is scheduled for the Clusone-Aprica (92 km), the first uphill finish of the race, which will end at 1173 meters on the Lombardy ascent.
