No semifinal and therefore no medal at the World Championships for the Setterosa. The’Italy women’s water polo in fact surrenders to the’Hungary at the quarterfinals of the competition being held in Singapore. It ends 12-9 for the Magyar, defending champions of the competition, after a game that saw the Azzurre chase for a long time, losing only in the final hope of a historic exploit.

The start of the match is actually very balanced, with Italy surprising Hungary by unlocking the score at 1-0 thanks to Ranalli. After the overtaking signed by Sumegi and Keszthelyi comes the answer thanks to a double by Giustini that brings the Azzurre back ahead. The match remains vibrant, and after the Var cancels the possible 5-3 Magyar, Ranalli and Bianconi sign the 5-4 for Setterosa.

This will unfortunately be the last moment when Italy finds itself leading. Sumegi and Garda score 6-5, the result with which the second half ends. Then it always stays ahead Hungary, although the Azzurre manage not to collapse: Bettini and Ranalli keep the one goal gap from the opponents, who, however, escape thanks to Leimeter and Keszthelyi in a phase of the match full of expulsions.

The game is not over yet.

It&#8217s not over yet: with less than three minutes to go, Ranalli scored the 8-10 penalty shot, Garda bringing Hungary&#8217s lead back to three goals. But Italy tries to pull off the feat, with Giustini scoring again. There was one minute and 17 seconds left, which unfortunately proved insufficient to center the semifinal. Especially since Leimeter finally closes the score on 9-12, which ends the Setterosa’s world adventure.
