Nottingham Forest, official the'landing of Ange Postecoglou on the bench

After the stormy end of the relationship with Nuno Espirito Santo, in a final break with owner Evangelos Marinakis, Nottingham Forest announced on Tuesday the name of their new coach: it is Ange Postecoglou, an Australian of Greek origin, who thus returns to coaching a few months after his’farewell to Tottenham, with whom he won the 2024-2025 edition of the’Europa League.

“The club will be coached by an experienced coach, capable of winning so many trophies– explained the Forest owner -He knows how to lead a team to the highest level and wants to build something special with us at Forest: he is the ideal person to accompany us on our journey and achieve all our ambitions”.

“After promotion to the Premier League and steady growth season after season, to the point of gaining access to European competitions, we now need to take the right step to compete with the best and strive for something even more important – added Marinakis. “Ange has the credentials and the right path to achieve this, we are thrilled that he is joining us on this ambitious journey”.

A class of 1965, Ange Postecoglou was as a soccer player a flag bearer for South Melbourne, a club with which he also began his coaching career in 1996. In Australia, he also later led the Under-20 national team, Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory and the senior national team, with a spell in Greece at Panachaiki in 2008. From 2017 to 2021, he led the Yokohama Marinos in Japan, before taking over as coach of Celtic, Scotland, in 2021 and Tottenham in 2023.

The latter was the head coach of the Yokohama Marinos in 2023.

In his rich palmares he boasts, in addition to the last Europe League, four Australian championships, a Champions League of Oceania, a Cup of Asia, a Japanese championship, two Scottish championships, as well as two League Cups and a National Cup also in Scotland. At Nottingham Forest he finds, among others, former Juventus players Nicolò Savona and Douglas Luiz, as well as other past players from the Italian league such as Nikola Milenkovic, Dan Ndoye and Nico Dominguez.
