Manita for Numia Vero Volleyball Milan, Paola Egonu stars

First test match of the season in the safe for the Numia Vero Volleyball Milano girls who this evening at the Opiquad Arena in Monza faced the Piedmontese formation of Wash4green Monviso Volley – opponents that Numia will find again in the next Tigotà Series A1 championship -imposing 5-0 (25-19; 25-19; 25-15; 25-23; 15-12). The joint training offered coach Stefano Lavarini many positive insights and interesting indications to work on in view of the upcoming Courmayeur Cup, a competition where Egonu and her teammates will face the Tuscan women of Savino Del Bene Scandicci in the semifinals on Friday, September 26.
For this match, coach Lavarini lined up the Bosio-Egonu diagonal, Piva and Lanier as setters, Danesi-Kurtagic in the middle and Fersino as libero. The first set was balanced between the two teams until the Meneghine’s stretch on 16-11. Egonu and her teammates then managed to keep the lead and close the set with a score of 25-19. The second fraction was a photocopy of the first one, with Vero Volleyball pulling away on the opponents (13-9) and guarding the lead; once again it was Numia to get the better of them and also win the second partial 25-19. In the third set there was also room for Benedetta Sartori – who took over from Serbian Kurtagic – who together with her teammates put in an excellent volleyball that allowed the hosts to accumulate a wide margin over the Piedmontese (14-8).
Coach Marchiaro’s lineup tried but was unable to get back into the match and halve the gap with the Milanese who, with an attack from the center by Sartori, closed the set 25-15. The start of the fourth set was balanced but it was always Numia Vero Volleyball that made a break and put the lead. Coach Lavarini changed the cards during the set, making the bench taste the court as well, but the result did not change: 25-23 for Milan and fourth partial in the pocket. In the fifth and final set Monviso was always forced to chase the home team, which, with solid play in all fundamentals, prevailed with a score of 15-12.
Satisfied Stefano Lavarini, coach Numia Vero Volley Milano: “Our experience on the court started in a positive way with this test match against Monviso Volley. We still need to work on some aspects but I think we had a good approach to the match, offering a decent quality; the girls were very willing to find the right communication to understand how to manage their responsibilities on the court. We need to take a step forward in batting management: it is a fundamental where we made a lot of mistakes today, but we were more focused on doing well during the’action. I think today’s was a good test.”
