Prophet at home. With great mastery, Robert MacIntyre triumphed at home at the’Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, shortened to 54 holes. It is his fourth victory on the European circuit.

One week after winning the Ryder Cup with Team Europe, the Scot captured the important tournament in front of his home crowd. Leading after 36 holes, the two-time winner on the PGA circuit had been unable to start the round on the legendary St Andrews course Saturday because of wind. Poor weather conditions had forced organizers to suspend play and reduce the tournament to 54 holes.

On Sunday, MacIntyre was finally able to play the third round. It was a final sprint that began in the best possible way, with a six-foot putt for birdie as early as hole 1. Despite the wind gusts still present, the runner-up from the last U.S. Open pulled away from the competition by adding three more birdies between holes 4 and 7. On the return, he continued his triumphant march with three more birdies, conceding only an inconsequential bogey on 17 (for a total of -18).

With a third consecutive 66, MacIntyre put the leading seal on his fourth DP World Tour victory. Born in Oban, he is the first Scot to win this tournament since Colin Montgomerie in 2005.

“Every time you win a tournament here, it’s something special – he remarked. –I am so happy with the way I did it. It is a great closing to a great week”
