When Lorenzo Musetti plays in the round of 16 in Shanghai: history with Felix Auger-Aliassime

The last Italian still in the running in the Shanghai Masters 1000, Lorenzo Musetti has already far surpassed his previous best result in the Chinese tournament (before this year he had not gone beyond the second round) but he is intent on continuing in this vein, confirming the positive period: on his way is an opponent he has faced several times already, Felix Auger-Aliassime.
The match on the concrete of the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena will be played on Wednesday, Oct. 8, no earlier than 6:30 p.m. local time, 12:30 p.m. in Italy. There are no less than seven previous meetings between Musetti and Auger-Aliassime, with a tally of four wins for the Carrara player against three for the Canadian.
The first meeting between the two dates back to the round of 16 of the Barcelona tournament, in 2021: Auger-Aliassime won, in three sets.
A few weeks later in Lyon, it was Musetti who won in three fractions, again in the round of 16, and the same Italian in 2022 moved ahead in the tally of direct clashes by winning in two sets in Monte Carlo, again in the round of 16.
The other two precedents in 2022, however, smiled on the Canadian, winning in the semifinals in Florence and, in the season finale, in the Davis Cup, in both cases in two sets. In 2024, Musetti’s big rematch, who in the final for the bronze medal at the Paris Olympic Games won right over Auger-Aliassime, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
The Canadian’s first match in 2024 was a close one.
Finally, the most recent precedent dates back to this season: in the Miami Masters 1000 round of 16, Musetti prevailed in a comeback, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, in a match played outdoors on concrete.
