Through its social channels Ducati has announced Marc Marquez&#8217s replacement in the Australian Grand Prix. The newly crowned world champion, who was the victim of a nasty crash with Marco Bezzecchi in the Indonesia GP, suffered a fracture at the base of the coracoid apophysis and a ligament injury in his right shoulder.

On the Phillip Island circuit, scheduled for Oct. 17-19, replacing the Spanish centaur on the track will be test rider Michele Pirro, who will celebrate his 70th career Grand Prix. For the moment, the Borgo Panigale stable has only announced the Cabroncito’s replacement as far as the Australian GP is concerned.

Marquez, for whom conservative treatment has been chosen that includes rest and immobilization of the affected shoulder until the fracture is fully healed and clinically consolidated, will in fact also miss the Malaysian Grand Prix, scheduled for Oct. 24-26.

It remains to be seen whether at Sepang Ducati will confirm Pirro in place of the Catalan rider or decide to launch Nicolò Bulega – currently fighting for the Superbike title with Toprak Razgatlioglu – making his overall debut in the premier class.
