Sergio Scariolo spurs Virtus Bologna ahead of Euroleague debut
Sergio Scariolo charges his boys for Euroleague debut
Virtus Bologna hasn’t played a game in the Euroleague since 2008. Friday night it will return to do so in the home match against As Monaco, valid for the first day of the Euroleague, scheduled at the “Virtus Segafredo Arena” at 8:30 p.m.
The coach of the Bologna-based club spoke this way ahead of the debut: “Every debut game in any competition is always special, there are expectations and concerns, but we are very excited for this return to the Euroleague. Of course we know we are rookies, but we have worked hard to be here, also thanks to the Eurocup win. We believe that when we reach a good team chemistry and manage to get our injured players on the court, we will be competitive to reach this dream that all 18 teams have and that is to get to the playoffs.
Scariolo then analyzed the opponents, “Our opponent is a great team. Last year they were a Final Four team and came within a few baskets of that goal; this year they have strengthened a lot by acquiring very good players with great physicality and talent. They also play very strong defense, so they are a top team and a great candidate to do even better this year. We will have to be ready, we are aware that this is a marathon and not a 100-meter sprint, we will do our best to start on the right foot.”
