Lorenzo Musetti, bitter debut at ATP Finals: Fritz knocks him out

Lorenzo Musetti’s adventure at the ATP Finals in Turin does not begin as he would have hoped. The Carrara native, the ninth seed and a member of the ‘Jimmy Connors’ Group thanks to Novak Djokovic’s forfeit, succumbed in two sets (3-6 4-6) to Taylor Fritz, the sixth seeded favorite, after nearly an hour and three quarters of play.
Lorenzo actually got off to a good start and got four break points, including two consecutive ones, as early as the third game but the U.S. rescued himself with his serve and in the next game punished the Azzurro by going up 3-1. Fritz conceded little on serve and kept the break until the final 6-3 with which he made the first set his.
In the beginning of the second set Musetti clears four break points to the American but in the third game he is forced to give up the serve again surrendering with two double faults. Fritz continued to concede crumbs on serve and filed the case on the second match point (6-4).
Musetti thus finds himself in the last place in the group standings.
The Tuscan will return to the court on the second day of the ‘Jimmy Connors’ group with Alex De Minaur, defeated by Carlos Alcaraz in the match that opened the ATP Finals singles tournament.
