Lorenzo Musetti’s possible Davis Cup forfeit? Filippo Volandri points out

After those over Jannik Sinner’s forfeit, controversy is also beginning to mount over a possible Lorenzo Musetti forfeit for the Davis Cup Finals. Italy’s non-player captain Filippo Volandri was pressed on the subject during the ATP Finals in Turin. Here are his words.
“Musetti is in his eighth consecutive week, now he has an important appointment like the Finals. Until the tournament is over, especially to let Lorenzo live this tournament that is as important for him as it is for us, let’s not talk about Davis.”
“However, there is not only the athletic issue: Veronica has a term that is exactly that of our Davis matches. For me, being a father of two children, it is a very very important thing. Lorenzo will have to make evaluations with me, after which we will come out with a common agreement, as we have always done.”
Filippo Volandri, 44, from Livorno, was world No. 25 as a player and has to his credit a prestigious victory over Roger Federer in the round of 16 at the 2007 Internazionali d’Italia, then reaching the semifinals. He has been non-player captain of the Davis Cup since 2021, and in 2023 and 2024 he led the Azzurri to win the silver bowl.
