After three consecutive victories against Great Britain (5-4 at the’overtime last Nov. 7), Slovenia (3-2 on Nov. 8) and Hungary (2-1 on Dec. 12), the Italian men&#8217s national ice hockey team&#8217s winning streak came to a halt, as it was overtaken by Poland 4-2 in the Budapest quadrangular, part of the IIHF European Cup of Nations, in its first edition.

A 4-2 loss to the Poles had been the last defeat before the winning series. In the match played Saturday in Budapest, Hungary, it was not enough for the Azzurri to take the lead through Segafredo on a power play after just under three minutes: Lyszczarczyk at 7’52”, Krzemian at 13’15”, Pas on a power play at 25’19” and Lewandowski at 29’56” put the match on the Polish selection’s tracks.

The Polish team was the first to score.

Ineffectively, at minute 36’58”, Spornberger’s goal, his fifth mark in the national team. Italy pays especially in penalties, with ten total minutes of numerical inferiority in spite of two for Poland. For the Blue Team, however, come important indications in view of the two big events of 2026, the Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina and the World Cup at the end of May in Switzerland.
