Getting closer to Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz: Lorenzo Musetti’s goal in 2026 is clear. The Italian tennis player at the microphones of Gill Gross Youtube channel explained his change of strategy to be able to play with the two currently strongest players in the world. “Against Carlos I played many times this year, while with Jannik only once in New York and it was a tough loss. With him I was never able to find my rhythm and I was completely outclassed”, explained the tennis player from Carrara.

“Against him I couldn&#8220t express my game and I suffered his, I would have liked to replay it more times to try to understand what I could do better – continued Musetti -. Against Carlos instead I played good tennis, especially on clay, but to keep his level I was always injured”. The change in strategy was necessary: “To try to close the gap with Alcaraz and Sinner I know I have to work very hard physically and having coach José Perlas on my team will certainly help me”.

Musetti expects a lot from the Spanish supercoach’s entry into the team: “My relationship with Simone Tartarini goes beyond tennis and no one can ever erase it. Having a figure like Perlas within the team was something I wanted but perhaps I did not have the courage to make this choice or feel the need”. Instead, the step was necessary, to overcome one&#8220s own limitations: “I have to try to shorten the gap with Jannik and Carlos, it is not something guaranteed but I will try by working on every detail that might allow me to improve even by 1% my game”.

Among the fundamentals to improve is the serve, which has already grown at the US Open: “I think it has given me more confidence and it is a very important part of my game if I want to be able to be more aggressive, which, as I said, is the main goal that the whole team agrees on”.

Musetti will start the season in Hong Kong: “With Perlas we talked about what he thinks is missing in my game. I am very happy with how we have been training in this pre season where everything is going well, I am looking forward to being in Hong Kong for my first tournament in 2026”.
