MotoGp: slipstream to Marc Marquez, the reaction of Pecco Bagnaia
Honda rider Marc Marquez snatched a position from Ducati centaur Bagnaia: “But I know how fast I am.”
Ducati centaur Pecco Bagnaia was satisfied with third position on the grid for the Australian Grand Prix: “For Sunday we’ll see, a group race is possible. You need to manage the tires, you will have to be smart to try to understand when to push.”
“In qualifying we managed to make a good time, very good front row. The important thing is to have gone strong and we managed to do that. During FP4 we took a big step forward, we solved a lot of the problems I was feeling and it was crucial for qualifying. The pace is good to try to win or make the podium, the potential is there.”
Throughout Q2, Marc Marquez was right behind him taking advantage of his slipstream, and in the final he stole second place from him: “If I had slowed down to let them pass they would have closed on me, even to the point of slowing me down by closing the throttle. I usually prefer to have the road clear in front, and I did the best I could,” commented the Piedmontese driver, who preferred not to take it personally, aware of his own strength. “We know we are fast.”
More on Marc Marquez: “Since I’m not fighting for the title with Marquez it didn’t make sense not to push equally, also because if I hadn’t, others would have passed me. In the future we will have to adopt a different strategy, but in any case despite having many bikes behind we still managed to go strong.”
