Discussions regarding Xabi Alonso&#8217s exoneration from Real Madrid have not subsided: the coach&#8217s departure has sparked conflicting opinions and the issue is still the subject of great debate especially in Spain. Interviewed by As, former Real Madrid player Javi Calleja had his say on the subject.

“Sometimes I say that patience can overcome fate and if you commit to a project, I don&#8217t understand how everything can fall apart so quickly. What happened with Xabi Alonso, like other similar cases, I don&#8217t understand or share. The coach is not the one responsible for everything, neither good nor bad. To give Real Madrid a distinctive identity and team style requires patience, teamwork and the necessary tools. Now it is Arbeloa’s turn to take over and we will see what he is capable of”.

According to some fans, this Real Madrid team is among the worst in recent years: “Speaking from the outside, I see one obvious thing: the absences of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric have not been adequately covered. The balance they have provided for so many years is no longer there. There’s one player I particularly like and that is Arda Guler: he is immensely talented, he is a more unique than rare midfielder and he needs to play continuously to grow. If he is given the opportunity, with his skills, he can reach the level of a star like Vitinha of Paris Saint Germain, I am sure”.

Javi Calleja was recently exonerated by Al-Riyadh despite the fact that he was getting good results when compared to the level of the team: “It was a matter of lack of confidence. I was hired by the sporting director, but when he left the club because of disagreements with the president, they looked for a coach they liked and let me go even though the results were not bad. They fired me without giving me any explanation. A similar situation to that of Xabi Alonso, they did not give us time to work”.

Florentino Perez decided to exonerate Xabi Alonso just 7 months after he took over the Real Madrid bench. The decision was heavily influenced by the Spanish coach’s less than idyllic relationship with some players.
