Gone is a midfielder, in is a defender: it is the latest market maneuver that Milan is planning in the last days of the winter session. The departing player is Ruben Loftus-Cheek, a midfielder no longer central to Massimiliano Allegri’s plans who could soon return to England. The former Chelsea man has ended up in the sights of Aston Villa, which would be ready to bring him back to the Premier League in the coming days. The Milanese club is leaning toward giving the green light, but has made a €15 million demand for the player.

The Villans have inquired from the Diavolo after Boubacar Kamara’s injury, who will be out until the end of the season. An official offer could arrive soon, Loftus-Cheek for his part is ready to return to England. His departure will trigger the incoming coup, which will not be in midfield but in defense: the Rossoneri are in fact following very closely Tottenham’s 2002 class central Radu Dragusin. The Romanian national in recent days had been approached by Roma.

Spurs are willing to sell him but want a guaranteed buy-back obligation in case of Champions League qualification.

Allegri highly appreciates the player, whom he met in his Juventus youth days, and in the last days of the market the Londoners might even open to a discount for the Romanian’s transfer. Dragusin, who arrived at Juventus in 2018, played on loan at Sampdoria and Salernitana before his permanent transfer to Genoa.

In 2024 he moved to Tottenham for €30 million. In the national team he played 27 games, scoring one goal. Allegri spoke in a press conference about the Rossoneri’s market a few days before the end of the session: “The club is working and evaluating carefully, and I am very satisfied with the squad available. I will say it again: either we take action to really improve it, or it is right to stay like this”.

“The key thing is for everyone to keep playing with conviction, keeping clear the goal of getting into the top four. It always looks easy from the outside, but getting there is very complicated, especially with very competitive teams and coaches like Conte, Spalletti and Gasperini, who almost every year hit that goal”.

The key thing is to keep playing with conviction.
