The heavy snowfall that fell during the night between Wednesday and Thursday and the consequent difficulty to properly fix the slope forced the organizers to cancel the second time trial ahead of the women’s downhill scheduled for Friday, January 30 at 10 am on the Swiss track of Crans-Montana.

The only official training held on Wednesday will still allow the race to run smoothly, but it will start from the reserve start, the same point from which the only round was taken. Entered for Italy are Sofia Goggia, a Federica Brignone starring in a record recovery ahead of the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics, Laura Pirovano, Elena Curtoni, Nicol Delago, recently targeted by a series of stupid criticisms for an interview given in the Ladin language, Nadia Delago, Asja Zenere and Roberta Melesi.

Between the controversy and even some calls for boycotts coming from Italy the Women’s World Cup circuit makes a stop this week in the resort scarred by the terrible fire that broke out at La Constellation bar on New Year’s Eve and claimed the lives of forty people, mostly very young, including six Italians, the unfortunate Riccardo Minghetti, Chiara Costanzo, Giovanni Tamburi, Achille Barosi, Sofia Prosperi and Emanuele Galeppini, the latter a great promise of golf. There are two races on the schedule: in addition to Friday’s downhill there will be a super-G on Saturday.

A large Italian delegation on Wednesday paid tribute to the Italian boys and girls and other young victims who lost their lives in the tragedy that occurred a month ago in the Swiss resort, laying a bouquet of flowers in front of the disaster site and gathering in a minute’s silence.

In the eyes of the Italian female athletes so much sadness and emotion for a disaster that could have been avoided and that, for what it can count in the face of the death of these youngsters, is also creating great friction between the rulers at home and those of the Helvetic Confederation.
