In the winter soccer market session, Marc-André ter Stegen left Barcelona and moved on loan to Girona in the hope of playing with more continuity to convince Julian Nagelsmann to bet on him for the upcoming World Cup to be held between Mexico, the United States and Canada. After his first good performances, the goalkeeper was injured during the match against Real Oviedo and will have to undergo surgery.

Marc-André ter Stegen entrusted his thoughts to a long Instagram post: “Many of you don’t know me personally, so I want to share this with you:
I am a positive person, I have always had this mindset and I have carried it with me through every challenge I have faced, but this one was especially hard for me. Last weekend the worst happened: I got injured during the game against Real Oviedo. I recently arrived at Girona, where from the first minute I was treated with great affection and closeness, and I really wanted to be part of the team and contribute to the achievement of our goals”.

“Now clearly my role will change but there will be no lack of support for the team and the technical staff, we have a great group and I already feel like I am in a big family: from the first minute I felt their support. As athletes, our greatest joy is competing: training and playing. Now I will have to put everything on hold for several months because I have decided to undergo an’operation. I will be back” wrote the strong goalkeeper on his social profiles.

His participation in the upcoming World Cup is practically ruled out. In recent days there are those who have put forward the possibility of seeing Manuel Neuer defending the German national team’s goal again, but Sepp Maier does not even want to hear about it: “This whole thing is a bit’ annoying – he said during the interview granted to Sport1 -. Whenever something happens, everyone immediately calls Manu. Although this shows the importance he has had and still has, it doesn&#8217t help the current team or its development”.
