Fan dies during match, soccer in mourning

The soccer world is in mourning over the death of Harda Kaçmaz, a Kocaelispor fan who died during the match against Besiktas valid for the group stage of the Turkish Cup. The boy fell from the stands and from the start the situation appeared critical: emergency workers immediately came to Harda&#8217s aid and took him to the hospital by ambulance. Unfortunately, however, there was nothing they could do.

“Sadly, we have lost Harda – Kocaelispor wrote in an official note -We express our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones and our community on the passing of our supporter Harda Kacmaz, who passed away in the hospital where he had been admitted. May God bless him. We will never forget you, Harda”.

Besiktas also wished to send their thoughts to the young boy who passed away:“We have learned with great sadness that Harda Kacmaz, a Kocaelispor fan who was seriously injured after falling from the stands during a match, has passed away despite all efforts to save him. We express our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones and the entire Kocaelispor sports community on the passing of Harda Kacmaz. May God bless him”.

Thousands of Turkish fans and others have sent thousands of condolence messages to Harda Kacmaz’s family via social media.

The tragedy has shaken the entire soccer world.

The Turkish football federation posted an official note on its website regarding the tragedy: “We have learned with deep sorrow that Harda Kacmaz, a Kocaelispor fan who fell from the stands during Thursday’s match between Kocaelispor and Besiktas, valid for the third day of the group stage of the Ziraat Turkey Cup, and was subsequently taken to the hospital, has passed away. We express our condolences to the deceased fan’s family, relatives and the Kocaelispor” community.

A few weeks ago a similar tragedy occurred in Switzerland, where a 36-year-old fan died after falling from the North Stand of Tourbillon Stadium during the match between Sion and Winterthur. Severely injured after the accident, he died the next day at Sion&#8217s hospital from his injuries.
