“Milan Cortina for me represented an opportunity to prove that you can be a mom and win a gold medal, that you can be even stronger” said Lollobrigida at a press conference after celebrating with her son Tommaso, born in 2003. “This success is first of all for myself, because I have shown that, although it is not easy, you can be a mom and at the same time a top athlete”.

Tracing her journey, the Olympian recalled the 2006 Turin Olympics, which she experienced then only as a spectator: “I had breathed the atmosphere of Italy’s victory, but today I can only say thanks to my father, who pushed me to start skating”. A special thought also to those who supported her in the most difficult moments: “It was not an easy season, I arrived here not in the best condition. But my family, the Federation and Merchetto have always encouraged me not to give up”.

This is Lollobrigida’s fourth participation in the Winter Olympics after those in Sochi 2014, Pyeongchang 2018 and Beijing 2022. In China she had won the silver medal in the 3,000 meters and the bronze medal in the mass start.

In March 2025 Francesca Lollobrigida became the first Italian woman ever to win the gold medal in the World Speed Skating Championships, over the distance of 5000 meters.
