Tomasoni competed with a special helmet depicting a sun dedicated to his ex-girlfriend Matilde Lorenzi, who tragically passed away on Oct. 28, 2024 after a terrible accident while training on the Val Senales glacier in South Tyrol. Federico, at the award ceremony, kissed the medal before taking it skyward in memory of his beloved Matilde.

“My first vacation with Matilde had been right here in Livigno – recalled l’Azzurro, speaking to Olympics microphones at the end of the race in which he won his first Olympic medal -. Today I was competing with bib number 17, which was his number. It was very exciting”.

“At that moment I didn&#8217t even care about the exact outcome, I ran to my friends knowing that the medal was safe. Being second is great, but the’important thing was to be there” Tomasoni commented on the’epic battle he won with Alex Fiva that gave him the silver medal.
