Legnano Basket Knights: big party for 60th anniversary

Veronica Belloni

An evening filled with emotions and memories celebrated the 60th anniversary of Legnano Basket Knights, bringing together executives, former players, sponsors and institutions to look back over six decades of red and white history. It was an opportunity to look back and, at the same time, to the future: about 190 guests huddled around a large cake with 60 candles, symbolizing the long journey that began in 1966.

The evening opened with a greeting from Mayor Lorenzo Radice, who grew up in the Knights’ nursery and is now a leading figure in the city, who recalled the deep connection between the club and the Leghorn area. Punctuating the main moments of the evening was President Marco Tajana, who guided the guests along with Gaia Accoto through the club’s milestones: from its founding in the spring of ’66, with the projection of the original poster, to more recent seasons, including promotions, challenges and seasons in national categories.

The Knights were also present.

Some of the protagonists of the early stages of the club’s history, such as the “founding fathers” present at the ceremony, also spoke, while ample space was given to the club’s most glorious moments and the figures who have marked the club’s path over the decades. Also present were LNP President Francesco Maiorana and LNP Secretary General Massimo Faraon

One of the most intense moments of the evening was the recognition of Maurizio Basilico, historic GM, who was honored for more than 25 years of commitment and dedication to the Knights. The award, presented as a surprise, drew attention to the value of the executives who work behind the scenes to support and grow the club.

The evening ended with the cutting of the celebratory cake, amid applause and stories, sealing an anniversary that was not only a look back but also a springboard to new challenges, sporting and social, for the club and the community that supports it.
