Jannik Sinner, it’s not over yet: what’s needed for ATP Finals
It is not over yet, as the math still grants some possibilities.
Jannik Sinner has already said goodbye to the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna after a bitter defeat to black beast Daniil Medvedev. However, the knockout does not yet oust him from the ATP Finals in Turin, to which he could still qualify by the skin of his teeth. Although different circumstances are expected to occur at the same time.
In the 2022 calendar year ATP ranking, Sinner currently occupies position 13 thanks to his 2,400 points. Matteo Berrettini, 15th, is actually very close and has 2375. Both could still win 1,000, thanks to participation in the Paris-Bercy Masters. That, however, they would be obliged to win at this point.
Tricky, if not nearly impossible, to close the gap with Felix Auger-Aliassime (3315) and Andrey Rublev (3440, but who by the ATP Finals will drop to 3350 due to forfeiting a 90-point tournament). Then you have to overcome the highest possible number of rivals among Taylor Fritz (2910), Hubert Hurkacz (2860), Alexander Zverev (2700) and Pablo Carreno Busta (2405). Hard to think of overtaking them all, but with a possible feat in Paris-Bercy one can start using the calculator.
