The winner and new Maglia Azzurra, immediately after the finish, said, “It was a very strange stage. Tinkoff wanted bonuses at the flying finish line when we first went through the circuit. Because it was hard, we stayed in front and kept pulling. Etixx – Quick Step and Tinkoff were going really hard. I tried to save my leg as much as possible. I ended up sprinting with Peter Sagan. I am in good shape, with today’s win I will try to win the general classification even though the original plan was to work for Tejay van Garderen. I am not a good time trialist but I have the opportunity to win and I will give my best.”
