Lewis Hamilton reopened the wound of the 2021 World Championship, when in a controversial finish in Abu Dhabi he lost a title he had already won in the last few corners. “I saw what was happening, and my worst fears came to life,” he told Vanity Fair.

“I was telling myself, there’s no way they’re going to cheat me like that, there’s no way, it’s not going to happen. I don’t know if I can really put into words the feeling I had. I remember sitting there in disbelief and stillness and realizing that I had to unbuckle, I had to get out of there find the strength. I had no strength.”

“It was one of the most difficult moments, I considered whether I wanted to continue racing,” the Englishman explained.
