Marcell Jacobs ahead of everyone even on television
Marcell Jacobs on TV
Marcell Jacobs’ gold, Yeman Crippa’s bronze. And in the morning, the bronze, the first Italian medal, by Matteo Giupponi. Athletics starred on TV and in all media. The live coverage of the evening session, curated by RAI Sport and broadcast by RAI 2, won prime time television, scoring, from 9:18 to 11:04 p.m. a share of 12:48 percent, attracting the attention of an average of 1,654,000 viewers. It beat the programming of all other generalist networks, an unequivocal sign of the appeal of the “queen” on TV.
The listening peak on the evening dedicated to the Munich European Championships was reached at 10:21 p.m., coinciding with Jacobs’ race: 18.20 percent, after having long been above the 17 percent mark. Official data also credited athletics with an excellent 3.88 percent (260,000 viewers) in yesterday’s very long live morning broadcast (8:29 a.m. to 2:07 p.m.) on the RAI Sport thematic channel (ch. 58 on digital terrestrial). Numbers beyond the averages of the sports network, moreover in the central week of August, when the overall TV audience inevitably ends up shrinking.
