MotoGp without Valentino Rossi: Sito Pons runs for cover
MotoGp post Valentino Rossi, former Spanish rider and Pons Racing team director speaks: ‘We need free-to-air races’
MotoGp is experiencing a particular moment after Valentino Rossi’s farewell and Marc Marquez’s injury: speaking out on the situation is former Spanish rider and Pons Racing team director Sito Pons in an interview with Marca. “For there to be more funding in the World Championship, our sport has to be more popular. Now MotoGp is living a difficult moment because it lost a reference point like Valentino Rossi, then came the injury of Marc Marquez. MotoGp has also had to face the pandemic problem in the last two years, but soon it will have full circuits in all Grand Prix. We have to try to finance the teams to keep them in the World Championship, especially in Moto2 and Moto3.”
“For that to happen, either the championship distributes more resources directly to the small-medium teams, or it needs to acquire more TV audience. We need a sport that is popular, and we need the races to be free-to-air. There are two options, either a World Championship with more free-to-air races, or the money you get from TVs has to reach more of the smaller categories.”
