John Millman races to the rescue of Andreas Seppi

The Andreas Seppi issue continues to hold sway: the Italian tennis player, who has already announced his retirement, would have gladly played the Florence or Naples tournaments but the federation decided not to grant him a wild card.

John Millman on Twitter came to the Bolzano native’s rescue: “Andreas Seppi did not get a wild card in an event in Italy where he could have ended his career. This is all a joke. Andreas had a great career, defended the colors of Italy in both Davis and the Olympic Games, and the Italian tennis federation does not give him a wildcard? This is pathetic,” the Australian tweeted.

“I would have loved to play in the draw in Florence or Naples to bid farewell to tennis, unfortunately, however, the Italian Tennis Federation did not allow me to do so, telling me that ‘giving a wild card to someone who is retiring would be a waste,'” Seppi had written on social in recent days.
