Formula 1’s harsh ruling on Ferrari
Ferrari’s bungling in qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix will cost Charles Leclerc dearly: the Monegasque will start only from 10th position after starting Q3 on the wrong tires, the only one with intermediate tires.
Formula 1 through its official website recoiled: “Ferrari misjudged the weather and sent Charles Leclerc out on intermediates expecting imminent rain that did not arrive, while his teammate Carlos Sainz and everyone else were on soft tires. It was a disappointing test for the team that felt it had a car capable of fighting for pole position, even in the rain, with the F1-75 the fastest of all in the slower corners.”
“At the moment the weather forecast puts rain throughout the weekend and this could favor Ferrari, which in theory could limit the damage on the straights (in the first free practice, Ferrari lost about 0.3 seconds to Red Bull in the last sector, which is basically 1.2 km of full throttle),” it reads.
At the end of qualifying Charles Leclerc commented unceremoniously on the decision of the race wall, “I accepted the team’s decision to fit intermediates, but then the rain didn’t come… We have the car to have a good weekend, but now we have to try to come out on top in the next sessions after what happened today. The pace was there, but that’s what happened,” he told Sky Sports.
