Brescia earthquake: Massimo Cellino resigned
Massimo Cellino has resigned
Massimo Cellino has resigned as president of Brescia Calcio. “I hereby tender with immediate effect my resignation as president of the Company and as a member of the Board of Directors, a resignation moreover already announced and temporarily suspended at the board meeting of October 24, 2022,” he wrote. “The reasons for the decision, which I have taken after a deep inner turmoil, are both of a personal nature and related to the concern to ensure the most efficient management of the Company so that it can achieve the best sporting results.
“On a personal level, the criminal proceedings, in which I am involved and which have now lasted for a good two years, as part of which the seizure order has been issued that effectively involves Brescia Calcio, has now worn down my serenity, which is necessary for the purposes of managing a complex enterprise such as a soccer team,” Cellino added. As far as the team’s interests are concerned, then, to the difficulty on a personal level that I mentioned above, it must be added that the existence of the seizure introduces a series of constraints that are ill reconciled with the flexibility and speed of decisions that an efficient management of a soccer club requires. For that matter, I am sure that the team is stronger than people think and the results that have not been achieved lately are children of my state of mind reflected on the team, and I am not saying this as a fan, but because of my many years of experience in soccer.
I am convinced that with my resignation the club will be in a position to identify, in agreement with the judicial bodies, a person who, with more serenity, can bring Brescia Calcio to those results that the passion of the fans deserves.”
