Sinner will not stop after Australian Open

Jannik Sinner is preparing for the first event of the year, which will be the Australian Open, where the South Tyrolean reached the quarterfinals in 2022 and then exited against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

However, the 2001 class, currently number 16 in the Atp rankings, has already made it known that after the first Slam of the year he will not stop. In fact, Sinner’s name appears on the entry list, released on Wednesday, January 11, of the Atp 250 tournament in Montpellier, scheduled in the French city between February 6 and 12.

A very rich schedule that sees the South Tyrolean as the number three seed given the presence of the Dane Holger Rune, who occupies the 10th position in the ranking, and the Spaniard Pablo Carreño Busta, the 15th ranked tennis player in the world. Italy’s other holder will be Lorenzo Sonego.

Despite having achieved excellent results in skiing since childhood, at the age of 13 Jannik decided to devote himself exclusively to tennis, moving to Bordighera, at the court of Riccardo Piatti. It was a choice that would prove successful, as Sinner is the youngest Italian tennis player ever to enter the top 100 (October 2019) and to win an Atp title in the Open era (Sofia 2020). In addition, along with Matteo Berrettini, Jannik is the only Italian tennis player to have reached at least the round of 16 in all four Slams. For him, 2022 was the breakthrough year: he left Piatti to rely on Vagnozzi.
