Atalanta furious and defeated: 1-0 Sassuolo, Dea closes in 9
The assault on second place in the standings has faded.
Atalanta defeated in Reggio Emilia, where Sassuolo prevailed 1-0 thanks to Armand Laurienté’s goal, continuing their rise in the standings after their triumph at the San Siro against AC Milan. For the Orobici, however, there are many regrets, starting with the two red card expulsions. The first, against Joakim Maehle, left the Nerazzurri in ten for over an hour. Then, as time expired, Luis Muriel also left the field prematurely.
Already in the first half it is Sassuolo that is preferred on the field, with Defrel, Henrique and the former Zortea engaging Musso. Frattesi also tried, but it was an initiative by Berardi that changed the game. In the 30th minute, in fact, it is the Azzurri national who induces Maehle to a hard intervention, directly on the leg. Referee Marcenaro draws the yellow card, but it turns red after Var Nasca’s intervention.
After the expulsion it is always Sassuolo that attacks, while Atalanta never shoots on goal before halftime. And after two attempts by Berardi before the end of the first half, in the second half comes the game-winning goal in the 55th minute. Laurienté scored it, with a beautiful personal action ended with a winning right-footed shot. Gasperini’s many changes did not change the fate of the match, despite timid attempts by Boga, Zapata and Pasalic. Then in the 96th minute came a red for protests against Muriel.
