Federica Brignone in the lead and convinced: “In the second run I will attack”
At world championships in Meribel, Brignone leads after first run of combined
The Alpine Skiing World Championships in Courchevel-Meribel have kicked off. In the first race of this rainbow event, the women’s alpine combined, Federica Brignone took the provisional lead 71 hundredths ahead of the first chaser, Norway’s Ragnhild Mowinckel. Third was Lara Gut-Behrami and fourth was the other Italian Elena Curtoni.
The skier from Valle d’Aosta spoke to official FISI channels after the first downhill, ahead of the slalom run: “We must not lose sight of the goal. I am not a slalom skier, but I can do very good heats and that is what I will try to do by attacking. My goal is to go as hard as I can, to do my best run and see what happens. I hope to show my best slalom, which I maybe never showed in the World Cup. You have to focus on the course and avoid overdoing it like I did in Cortina. You have to be able to do what’s in your bones and do it the best you can-that’s the only recipe that works.”
