There is a limit to everything, and, that limit, has been crossed, at least according to Gaia Bianchi Mannion, mother of Virtus Bologna point guard Nico Mannion. In a long social post, the former Golden State player’s mother decided to no longer keep quiet in the face of insults, gratuitous ones, against her son.

!Jealousy, malice, envy are an ugly beast but the ugliest and most harmful beast is ignorance…. Everyone can have personal opinions about what kind of player he is, it is permissible and I realize that we do not all read basketball in the same way and that a fan may prefer one style of play to another but what is not permissible is the insult to the person, the gratuitous denigration of a 21 year old boy whom you have never met or exchanged 2 words with!!!! It is shameful for a mother to be reduced to insulting Nico or me or my husband even without knowing anything about us at all! I repeat I have held back and refrained hundreds of times from responding but everything has a limit!!! We will be at the arena in May to support Nico and Virtus as we have done until now so I beg this lady (lady is a compliment) or anyone else who feels like insulting me or my husband or Nico to have the decency to do it face to face. I can only wish this mother that she can ruin her son like I ‘ruined mine’….” All this while then listing Nico Mannion’s career titles and achievements.
