VNL, Italy wastes but then recovers: Canada k.o. in direct clash
Italy-Canada 3-2, Azzurre in full qualification race
Italy won two very important points for qualification to the final phase of the Volleyball Nations League, beating Canada in Friday’s head-to-head clash: 22-25, 25-23, 25-14, 24-26, 15-10 the partials of the match played in Bangkok’s Indoor Stadium Huamark.
The points in the standings, in fact, could have been three instead of two, but a blackout in the final of the fourth set, which the Azzurre had come to lead as late as 22-18, prevented the girls led by coach Davide Mazzanti from winning the full spoils, thus giving a point to the Canadians, who, however, because of the defeat, must say goodbye to the competition.
The last match of the preliminary phase will be played on Sunday, against Serbia, also in the Thai capital: the final phase will be played instead in Arlington (Texas), in the United States.
