The women’s world championship is Spain’s

At Stadium Australia in Sydney, Spain won the first world title in its history in its third participation by beating European champion England 1-0 in the final. Yesterday in Brisbane it had taken third place by beating Australia 2-0 with goals from Rolfo and Asllani.

Shortly after the quarter-hour of the first half two sensational chances, one each: first Hemp hit a clamorous crossbar, then on the other side first Paralluelo and then especially Redondo could not find time to put in the net.

But in the 29th minute came the Iberian women’s advantage: Caldentey spread out on the left to Camona, who went to the center and fired a left-footed diagonal shot that electrocuted Earps. In the 37th minute Paredes has a chance to double but wastes it badly by dribbling wide. In the salvage stupendous right-footed shot by Paralluelo that hits the outside post and goes out.

Since taking the goal England struggles and it is Spain that leads the dance, this is confirmed at the beginning of the second half. Midway through the second half a very clear foul of Walsh’s hand causes the Iberian women to be awarded a penalty via VAR but Hermoso has it blocked by Earps.

England rallied but it was still Spain that had the best chances, two deflected into corners by the opposing defender and then one by the post and the other by the goalkeeper. And in the end, after a full quarter of an hour of added time, practically an extra time, it is Jorge Vilda’s girls who win a historic triumph.
