At the U.S. Open, taking the first Italian victory è was the talented Matteo Arnaldi.
The young man from San Remo, 61° in the ATP rankings (his best result to date), made a stellar debut in New York, overcoming Australian Jason Kubler, number 87 in the rankings, who complained of an injury early in the second set.
The score at the time of abandonment was 6-3 1-0 (30-0) for the Ligurian tennis player, in just 50 minutes of play. This success marks Arnaldi's second triumph in a major main draw, following his victory over Colombian Galan at Roland Garros last May.
