Weights, results

Azzurri weightlifters still stellar, è a wonderful season that no one would ever want to end: Leonardo Fabbri hurls the weight to a regal 22.14, Zane Weir again approaches twenty-two meters with 21.90 in Arzignano (Vicenza), at the’inauguration of the new platform at Dal Molin Stadium. The world silver medalist Fabbri (Aeronautica), who in a few hours, Wednesday at 6, will take off to Eugene for the final of the Wanda Diamond League on Sunday evening in Italy, signs the second measure in his career, confirming beyond the threshold of excellence of 22 meters, as had already happened at the World Championships in Budapest, when he had climbed the podium with 22.34.

European indoor gold medalist Weir, with 21.90 on his last throw but also with a previous 21.79, is again approaching ‘twenty-two’ in the last competition of his season, a year that brought him up to 22.44 in Padua. In the afternoon that, as so often of late, has all the hallmarks of an Olympic or rainbow final, success goes to U.S. Budapest bronze medalist Joe Kovacs with 22.36.

For Fabbri it was an important test also in the light of some technical novelties introduced together with coach Paolo Dal Soglio: “I have changed something in the starting phase and I am doing particular tests — explains the Italian, author of a series of 20.22 – 21.09 – 21.20 – 22.14 – 21.43 – 21.48 — I needed these last races to be able to put it into practice for the Diamond final. I am tired but I really want to do well in Eugene” too. Where I will challengeà the other world bigs, starting with U.S. world record holder and Olympic champion Ryan Crouser.
