Matteo Berrettini has chosen Francisco Roig as his new coach for the start of the Australian season. Roig è has been part of Rafa Nadal’s staff from 2005 until 2022 and has followed other top Spanish players such as Albert Costa, Alberto Berasategui and Feliciano López. He also served as vice-captain of Spain in the victorious Davis Cup editions of 2009 and 2011.

Initially, Berrettini had thought of relying on Sweden&#39s Thomas Enqvist, but the latter was unable to leave for Australia due to health problems. The Italian tennis player will start again from the Brisbane tournament, which coincides with Nadal’s return after a year’s absence due to injury.

Berrettini è was the first Italian to qualify for two editions of the Nitto ATP Finals and reach the final at Wimbledon, confirming himself as one of the most representative Italian players of the moment. With Roig's arrival as his new coach, the Italian tennis player hopes to be able to achieve even greater heights on the professional circuit.

This year Matteo Berrettini has had the chance to challenge his opponents in only 23 matches on the major circuit, with a balance of 12 wins and 11 losses. However, è it was on the Wimbledon grass surface that the azure found his best result, beating Sonego, De Minaur and Zverev before bowing out in four sets in the round of 16 against Carlos Alcaraz, who would go on to win the title. The last defining episode of his season è was the fall and subsequent injury to his right ankle in the second round of the US Open against Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech.

Announcing the early end of this season, Berrettini also decided to end his partnership with his coach Vincenzo Santopadre. Together, Berrettini and Santopadre shared great successes, such as the first win by an Italian tennis player in singles at the 2019 Nitto ATP Finals, and historic milestones, such as the first Italian to reach all quarterfinals of Slam tournaments at least once.

With Santopadre by his side, Berrettini reached the No. 6 position in the ATP rankings after reaching the semifinals at the 2022 Australian Open, which is the third best result ever for an Italian tennis player. Now, the talented Italian è is ready to start again and show once again his great strength of spirit, demonstrating how one can overcome difficulties and reach to touch the stars.
