Paolini's adventure at the Australian Open (last Italian in play in the women&#39s draw) came to a halt in the round of 16. The Italian failed to overcome the Kalinskaya obstacle. The 25-year-old Russian played a match of great substance, preventing the Italian from getting into the match. In the key moments of the match, Kalinskaya played at excellent levels, never making mistakes and forcing her opponent into several errors from the baseline. Also bad was the Italian's first ball (46 percent of points on her first serve).

"I had faced her a few years ago and lost there. I tried to be more continuous and aggressive, to make as few mistakes as possible", the Russian’s words at the end of the match. For Kalinskaya this is the first career quarterfinal in a Grand Slam tournament.

For Paolini there remains the satisfaction of having played, for the first time in her career, an eighth final in a round of a Slam tournament. Thanks to this very important achievement in Melbourne, the Italian will make an important leap in the WTA ranking. The good experience at the Australian Open could turn her around for good.
