Santiago Castro from Velez to Bologna

Bologna announced on Tuesday the arrival to the Rossoblù of Santiago Castro, a 19-year-old forward from Velez Sarsfield, a club in Argentina’s top division. This is the first experience in Europe for the young striker, who had made his professional debut in the ranks of Velez after completing the youth ranks.

Castro made his first-team debut for Velez when he was just 16, making his Copa Libertadores debut in 2022. In 2023, a troubled year for El Fortín with as many as two coaching changes, Castro è took the stage by contributing to the team’s salvation and graduating as the national cup’s top scorer, with 6 goals.

He can è play either as a sole striker or paired with another striker, on more occasions he has also played as an offensive outside player. Among his main characteristics are his physical strength and his ability to play from the side. Santiago Castro arrives at Bologna after playing a total of 64 games with Velez Sarsfield, scoring on nine occasions.
