A bitter podium in the Mugello celebration.

Jorge Martin did not è go beyond third place at the MotoGP Grand Prix d'Italia, crossing the finish line at Mugello behind Pecco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini after dueling with both. The leader of the rainbow standings, while smiling for an extremely interesting and hard-fought race, chews bitterly at the end of the day for a result that could have been much better. Especially in view of a newfound speed on the track.

"Before the race I would have signed to get a podium behind the Ducati Factory – admitted Martin to the microphones of 'Sky Sport' -. But once in the race I have to say that things changed given how close I was to Pecco, with three laps to go I was only two tenths from him. I could see victory there, within reach. It was very difficult, in any case. Becauseé it is one thing è to arrive and another to overtake an opponent".

" I was still very close to Bagnaia, I had the speedà that I was looking for – Martin stressed -. It was a whole different matter from yesterday, when I was much more distant. From there forò I even found myself third within two laps. That hurt me, I admit. I feel very frustrated with myself, because I made a rookie mistake. But believe me, over the course of this season nothing like that will happen again".

"At the end I made a very open line, from the board I could see that Bastianini was at 0.8. So I thought there was no one to contend for second place. Instead there'was, and to leave soì a second position is not è nice. However, I am still left with the incredible performance of the last few laps, I think there was the potential to win at Mugello" today, Martin concluded.
