Euro 2024, Matjaz Kek didn’t see it coming
Matjaz Kek, coach of Slovenia, spoke after the 0-0 draw with England that was worth qualifying for the round of 16: "I did not expect to pass the round. We showed with our play that we deserved it. We were playing against one of the tournament favorites. Thanks to all the fans and maybe there'è been a little bit of luck".
"Throughout the day I felt positive and tonight we showed mental strength. We analyzed them but when we became passive we had problems. England had a great opportunity at 90' but Jan didn't have much work. We played against a very strong team and I again emphasize the mental strength of this young team that showed its true values".
"We have to be aware that we cannot have new great players every two years. Our pool of playersè simply too small, but many of those above me deserve praise for preparing me for success".
