Thomas Tuchel explains his ‘yes’ to England national team
Thomas Tuchel will be the coach of England from Jan. 1, 2025
The Football Association (the English equivalent of our Football Association) has officially announced the hiring, as the new England selector and coach, of Thomas Tuchel, who will fill the role from Jan. 1, 2025 ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Tuchel will be assisted by Anthony Barry, who had already been one of his deputies at Bayern in the 2023/2024 season.
"I am proud and honored to have been chosen as the new England coach,” said Tuchel, explaining his 'sì' to the proposal of FA CEO Mark Bullingham. I have felt a special connection with English soccer for a long time, which has already given me some incredible moments".
"To have the opportunity" to represent England " is a huge privilege and the opportinity" to work with many talented footballers " is exhilarating for me. Together with Anthony, we will do everything to succeed with this national team and make the fans proud. I want to thank the FA, especially Mark and John (McDermott, FA technical director, ed.) for believing in me, I can't wait to get started".
For Tuchel it will be his first experience at national level, his second in England where he has already coached Chelsea from January 2021 to September 2022: with the Blues he won the 2020/2021 Champions League, winning a few months later also the European Super Cup and the World Club Championship.
Prior to his arrival, England will complete the Nations League group stage with Lee Carsley at the helm, to give continuity to the journey in the competition that began last September and sees the Three Lions national team seek promotion to the A League.
