In fact, it was a one-sided match, with only one moment of difficulty for Djokovic at the beginning of the second set, when he went down 0-2: having recovered the break disadvantage in the fourth game, however, the reigning Olympic champion never looked back, leaving from that moment until the end of the match only crumbs to the British athlete.
For Novak Djokovic this is his 15th consecutive qualification (18th overall) to the quarterfinals of Roland Garros, a tournament he has won three times (2016, 2021 and 2023). Nole’s next opponent will be Alexander Zverev, who a few hours earlier secured a pass to enter the top eight thanks to the withdrawal of Tallon Griekspoor, who was nonetheless trailing 6-4, 3-0 after just under an hour of play.
Novak Djokovic’s very first match win in the main draw at Roland Garros dates back to the 2005 edition, when the Serb, then 18, beat U.S. Robby Ginepri in three sets in the first round before surrendering in the next round to an injury that forced him to retire against Guillermo Coria. Since then, another 99 wins have come in the Paris slam, making him the third tennis player in history to reach triple digits: joining him in the exclusive triple-digit club are Rafa Nadal (112) and Roger Federer (105).
