Jannik Sinner stopped by rain, risk of postponement growing more and more concrete

As announced and feared, around 4 p.m. a heavy disturbance hit the courts of the Foro Italico, forcing organizers to suspend the program due to heavy rain falling on the Capital.
The bad weather interrupted the first semifinal of the singles tournament between Luciano Darderi and Casper Ruud. At the time of the stop, which came at 4:08 p.m., the Norwegian was ahead 4-1 and A-40, with the Blue called upon to cancel a break ball just as the first drops convinced the chair judge to stop play. After prestigious victories against Alexander Zverev and Rafael Jodar, Darderi appeared less bright, but the interruption could allow him to recover valuable energy ahead of the resumption.
The rain, however, also affected the rest of the day’s schedule. In fact, in addition to the matches, Jannik Sinner’s warm-up was also suspended, and he was forced to interrupt his preparation for the evening semifinal against Daniil Medvedev.
Resumption of play had initially been assumed not before 5 p.m., but the intensity of the downpour and the less than encouraging forecast made it difficult to keep to the schedule. As a result, the challenge between Sinner and Medvedev, scheduled no earlier than 7 p.m., is also likely to slip significantly, with the possibility of a postponement to tomorrow remaining on the table.
