Amorim, embarrassing mistake: new idol of milanistas

In Genoa, an embarrassing mistake by Amorim in the opening minutes of the second half changed the inertia of the match: his too-short back pass favored the insertion of Nkunku, who was then landed in the box by Bijlow. The referee awarded the penalty and Nkunku himself scored from the penalty spot. Milan took the lead, Amorim a new idol for the Rossoneri.
The first half at Marassi had instead ended 0-0. Genoa had started better, with De Rossi’s team able to press high and put Milan in trouble from the first minutes. The sharpest chance for the Rossoblù had come through Vitinha. The Rossoneri grew as time went on, however, without being able to create any real danger to the opponent’s goal.
Nkunku’s goal, which came on 49′, however, triggered a furious reaction from the red-blue crowd. After Milan’s lead, Genoa fans began throwing several objects and smoke bombs onto the pitch, forcing referee Sozza to stop play for several minutes while waiting for the smoke to clear. The match director also picked up and displayed a coin that had fallen near his assistant. The match then resumed as normal with the Rossoneri still leading 1-0.
Today’s match at Marassi is a crucial one for Milan’s European ambitions. Allegri’s team, coming off two consecutive defeats against Sassuolo and Atalanta, absolutely needed to get back to winning ways to keep their hopes of Champions League qualification alive. With Roma and Como chasing on equal points and two points behind, respectively, every point is precious in this final sprint.
